MASON CITY -- James Russell Ernst 66, died (Tuesday, May 15, 2007), at Hospice of Arizona, Sun City West, Arizona.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday (June 1st, 2007), at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E. Mason City, with Rev. Perry Aalgaard officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday (May 31st, 2007) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E., Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Arizona, Hospice of North Iowa, or Floyd County Conservation Fossil and Prairie Park.

James Russell Ernst was born on July 24, 1940 in Charles City, IA the son of Louis and Emma (Janssen) Ernst. He attended Rockford High School and graduated with the class of 1958. Following high school Jim attended Hamilton Business College, graduating in 1960.

On June 24, 1961 he was united in marriage to Iva Kerchner at the Eden Presbyterian Church in Rudd, IA.

Jim began work at the Rockford Brick and Tile where he worked in customer service for over 17 years until their closing. He then began work at the Sheffield Brick and Tile where he worked until 1988. Following their closing he worked at Solvay Animal Health until retirement in 1997.

Jim enjoyed traveling, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, watching the birds, spending time with his family, and especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He will always be remembered for his strong will, positive attitude, and for his smile.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Iva of Mason City, two daughters, Kristi (Mark) Washington of Nora Springs, Pamela (Dan) Yegge of Buffalo Center; four grandchildren, Lindsay Washington, Luke Washington, Derek Yegge, and Danielle Yegge; two sisters, June (Gerald) Marth of Nashua, Joan (Eugene) Swenson of Algona; one brother, William (Thelma) Ernst of Mason City; mother-in-law, Leila Kerchner, two sisters-in-law, Deanna Fredricks and Leona Kerchner, brother-in-law, Larry Kerchner, as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Emma; nephew, John Ernst; father-in-law, Andrew Kerchner; brother-in-law, Daryl Kerchner.
