Joseph Embretson, age 77 of Mason City, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Online condolences to the family may be sent at www.greenwoodfuneral.com. The Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joseph B. Embretson, the son of Bernard and Mammie Embretson, was born on June 27, 1934, in Owatonna, Minn. His childhood years were spent in Rudd, Iowa where he received his education. In 1955, Joseph entered the Navy and honorably served until 1966. During his time in the service he was united in marriage to Rae Truesdale. Following the service, Joseph worked as a machinist for many years.

In his free time, Joseph enjoyed being a H.A.M. radio operator, gardening, drinking coffee with his friends, watching the weather channel, and his dogs. Most of all he enjoyed being around his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rae Embretson; his parents; and one son, Joseph Bernard II.

He is survived by five daughters: Debra Zor of Sheboygan, Wis., Cindy McKenna of Waterloo, Joey Cain of Cherokee, Carla Dahlquist of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Teri Zipse of Ashland, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother Wayne Jorgenson of Owatonna, Min.; and special friend, Mary Patch of Mason City.
