Wednesday, February 18, 2009MASON CITY — Opal M. Elliott, 97, of Mason City, died Sunday (Feb. 15, 2009) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Kent A. Mechler, chaplain of Good Shepherd, officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Opal was born May 27, 1911, in Moorhead, Minn., the daughter of Louis and Jessie (Keller) Swanson. She attended school in Moorhead. In 1936, she moved to Mason City. She married George R. Elliott in 1945. She worked for the Independent Medical Surgical Group as a lab assistant for over 30 years
She attended the First Christian Church and was a member of the Women of the Moose. She loved animals.
Opal enjoyed craft work, reading, grocery shopping and making apple pie.
She is survived by one niece, Beverly Breitbarth of Austin, Minn. She is also survived by her best friend, Linda Wendel of Mason City, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1987, her parents; her brother: Loren E. Swanson; five half sisters, one half brother, nephew-in-law: Robert Breitbarth; her favorite nephew: Barry Breitbarth and other nieces and nephews.
