MASON CITY - Genevieve C. Fulghum, 97, of 1037 19th St. S.W., died Saturday (Aug. 30, 1997) at I.O.O.F. Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Larry Squier officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Memorials may be given to the Genevieve C. Fulghum memorial fund.

Genevieve was born Oct. 4, 1899 in Sheffield, the daughter of Albert and Frances (Green) Phipps. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1919. Genevieve married Willard S. Fulghum on May 7, 1920 in the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Willard died in 1955. Genevieve was a lifelong resident of the North Iowa area moving to Mason City in 1983 from Lincoln Township. Genevieve was a member of the First Christian Church in Clear Lake, an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a 4-H leader and served on the local extension council. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Pearson and her husband, Arnie, of Mason City; two sons, Willard Fulghum, and his wife, Charlotte, of Mason City; and Russell Fulghum, and his wife, Lois, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, David Fulghum, Joanne Schumacher, Janiece Ehler, Eddie and Francis Long; seven stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Francis Justin Fulghum in 1929; husband, Willard in 1955; one sister, Alberta in 1983; one grandson, Marion Francis Long in 1945; and one great-grandson, Kenneth Grant Long in 1988.
