MASON CITY — Alice L. Fransen, 88, of 4962 Monongahela St., San Diego, Calif., formerly of Mason City, died Dec. 24 (1997) at the home of her daughter, Sandra Hartwell.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Arne Bergland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Alice L. Fransen was born Aug. 7, 1909, in Northwood, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Laura (Peterson) Nordahl. Alice grew up in the Northwood and Lake Mills areas, where she attended country schools.

Alice married Lewis Fransen on Sept. 5, 1930, in Mason City.

Alice was a homemaker and loved to knit and crochet. She loved her Mason City home and being an Iowan.

She was very loved and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie Arnold, Davenport, Sandra Hartwell, San Diego, and Priscilla Prestholt, Salem, Ore.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lilly Fransen, Mason City; one sister-in-law, Clara Fransen, Mason City; and many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis, in 1976; one son, Donald Fransen, in 1988; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
