Mason City - Stanley John Fountas, 73, of 1417 N. Hampshire Ave., died Friday (June 3, 2011) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 Second St. S.W. Mason City; with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, where a Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m.

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Stanley Fountas Memorial in care of Kelli Fountas.

Stanley John Fountas was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Mason City, the son of John and Cynthia (Schick) Fountas. Stan attended Mason City Schools. He enlisted into the United States Army Air Force on Aug. 19, 1955, serving until his honorable discharge on July 26, 1960. Stan was united in marriage to Eileen M. "Kelli" Carlson on May 9, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City; to this union a daughter, Sheila, was born.

Stan worked for AMPI for 39 years until his retirement in 2000.

Stan's greatest love was spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, vegetable and flower gardening, feeding the birds and cooking for the Greek Church dinners and Greek Festival. Stan was a lifetime member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Mason City. His other memberships included Teamsters Local 828 where he served as president for several years, V.F.W. and D.A.V.

Stan is survived by his wife Kelli Fountas, Mason City; daughter Sheila (Larry) Lehman; grandchildren, Olivia, Madeleine, Aaron and Esther Lehman, all of Oswego, Ill.; siblings, James (Joyce) Fountas, Mason City, Florence (Bob) Larson, Clear Lake, Stella Rodemeyer, Pharr, Texas, Mona (James) Hennigar, Fort Madison, Thomas (Beverly) Fountas, Racine, Wis., along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents, John and Cynthia Fountas; brothers, Nick and George Fountas.
