ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- Barbara Justine Kerby Finnegan, 74, died Thursday (July 25, 1996), at her son's home in Escondido, Calif. Mrs. Finnegan died from Lung Cancer.

Born Nov. 17, 1921, in Hartford, Kan., she attended the University of Missouri. For 10 years, Mrs. Finnegan and her husband owned and operated Finnegan Thrifty Print in Mason City, Iowa.

Prior to that, she was a free-lance technical writer for the Business and Airline Schooling Industries.

She and her husband moved to Sun City after retiring from publication work in 1986.

She recently moved to Escondido, Calif., to be with her son and daughter-in-law.

Mrs. Finnegan worked as a volunteer at Menifee Valley Medical Center and was first vice president of the hospital's auxiliary. She was a computer enthusiast and worked on several projects for the hospital. She was also editor of the monthly calendar, newsletter and the quarterly Auxiliary Network News. Earlier this year, the hospital auxiliary awarded Mrs. Finnegan the first ever Silver Circle Award.

As a publication expert, Mrs. Finnegan wrote and edited newsletters and press releases for various organizations, as well as being an active member of the Golden Valley Writers Club.

She was also an avid bridge player, and played duplicate or party bridge several times a week.

She is survived by her son, Steven Finnegan of Escondido; brother, Bill Kerby of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Francis Felder of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; grandchildren, Ron and Richard Rosson; and great- grandchildren, Kyrie, Gage and Keegan Rosson.

Mrs. Finnegan also had an especially close relationship with her daughter-in-law, Patricia Finnegan.

Mrs. Finnegan was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, and son, Michael.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Patio Homes Recreation Hall in Sun City. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa, between her late husband and son.
