MASON CITY — Barbara DeWall, 60, of Mason City, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Barbara DeWall Memorial Fund in care of the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com .

Barbara was born on Dec. 11, 1950, in Mason City, the daughter of Kenneth and Barbara (Hejlik) Johnson. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1969. On May 8, 1976, she married John DeWall at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. She was a hard worker and endured many long hours. For the past 20 years, Barb worked in restaurant management — most recently working at the Cerro Gordo County Correctional Facility (employed by CBM - Sioux Falls, S.D.). Other places of employment included Suzie Q Cafe, where she worked with her mother, and Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Barb enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking, and playing games (crossword puzzles, online computer games and the lottery, to name a few). Barb loved having long hair and recently decided to have it cut and donated to Locks of Love.

Barb is survived by her husband of 35 years, John DeWall of Mason City; four children, Lisa JoAnn Smith and husband Nathan of Granger, Curtis John DeWall of Cedar Rapids, Chad Carlson of Beloit, Wis., and Jeremy Carlson of Marion; seven grandchildren, Lilly, Samantha, Mackenzie, Amber, Trey, Monica and Courtney; her siblings, Leo Krambeer and wife Karen of Plymouth, Loretta Martin of Mason City, Lennie Kelley of Surprise, Ariz., Roberta Sheehan and husband Jay of Mason City, Janie Olson and husband Daryl of Sioux Falls, S.D., Julie Schlawin and husband Greg of Garner, and Laurelie Woolley and husband Rick of Tiffin; mother-in-law, Bonnie DeWall of Mason City; and three sisters-in-law, Nancy Fisher and husband Stephen of Hanlontown, Jeanne DeWall of Williamsburg and Koni Hayes and husband Doug of Brighton, Colo. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Charlotte Bray; nephew, David Hartema; grandson, Joshua Hershey; and her father-in-law, Donald DeWall. She was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
