May 01, 1996MASON CITY -- Marian A. Davis, 87, of 707 Elm St. E., Rockwell, died Saturday (April 27, 1996) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson of the First United Methodist Church, Mason City, officiating.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a family and friends memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Rockwell Community Nursing Home in memory of Marian A. Davis.
Marian was born Aug. 24, 1908, in Freeborn County, Minn., to George E. and Mae M. (Barker) Jones.
She graduated from Freeborn High School and Mankato State with a teaching degree. She taught four years.
She was married to Donald R. Davis in Minneapolis on Dec. 29, 1928. He preceded her in death in 1948.
She worked for Stoddard Manufacturing Company for a time and was a nurses aide at the Park Hospital. Marian worked at the Mason City Public Library for eight years, and at the Clear Lake Public Library for a time. For 16 years, she worked in the Medical Library at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Iowa Library Association. She lived in Indianola for six years.
Survivors include son, Donald Robert Davis and wife, Nita, of Texarkana, Ark.; daughter, Betty A. Smith and husband, Richard, of Indianola; son, Richard D. Davis and wife, Edna, of Sun Valley, Nev.; son, Leslie D. Davis and his wife, Barbara, of Worley, Idaho; daughter, Carol E. Wallace and husband, Larry, of Indianola; daughter, Sharon M. Sharp, of Indianola, and daughter, Lois A. Brown and husband, Dallas, of Rockwell; son-in-law, Robert S. Brood of Swaledale; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Berniece Barron of Mason City, Ruth Conway of Mason City, and Doris Davis of Fort Scott, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1948; one sister; three brothers; daughter, Marilyn J. Brood in 1991; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
