MASON CITY -- Bert L. (B.L.) Coon, 78, of 905 Ninth St. N.E., died Friday (Nov. 24, 1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Peter Monkres officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, where full military honors will be conducted by members of Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the church.

Bert L. Coon was born March 7, 1917, at Algona, the son of John and Elva (Lorenz) Coon. He met Margie M. Morris at Algona and they were married on June 15, 1940, at Mason City.

He attended school at Algona. Bert served in the U.S. Army Engineers, stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for Clappsaddle's Garage at Algona, and later worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., Mason City, for 39 years.

Bert enjoyed wooodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening. After retiring, he especially enjoyed coffee club. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Telephone Pioneers of America and was a life time member of V.F.W. Post 733.

Bert is survived by six children, Jeff Coon and his wife, Liz, Altus, Okla., Neil Coon and his wife, Maria, Hayward, Calif., Beth Thomas, Foster City, Calif., Nita Boleneus and her husband, Bob, Wesley, Lila Kohls and her husband, Andy, Ord, Neb., and Todd Coon and his wife, DeAnn, Mason City; 15 grandchildren, Melinda Langston, Christopher Coon, Sean Coon, Paul Coon, Pastor Coon, Oralia Coon, Leonard Thomas Jr., Bradley Thomas, Dawn Boleneus, Tami Hove, Marie Kohls, Amy Kohls, Tasha Sabourin, Ashley Coon, Brandon Coon; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Kohls and Nida Sabourin; and two sisters, Cora Thompson, Algona, and Maud Bloome of Illnois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; hi wife, Margie in 1994; two brothers, Wade and Fred Coon; and one sister, Dona Klink.
