Dorothy Margaret Balek, 81, of 13 Sunny Circle, died Tuesday (Aug. 27, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. Private family services were held. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Memorial Park Cemetery Columbarium.

The family will greet friends at 7 tonight at its home at 13 Sunny Circle.

Dorothy Margaret Balek was born May 6, 1915, in Arlington, daughter of Leon and Rose Ella (Hamlett) Wade. She married Joseph James Balek on Aug. 12, 1933.

Dorothy grew up in the Mason City area. She and her husband lived in Los Angeles, Calif., for 27 years where she worked at American Bakery until retiring and moving back to Mason City. She enjoyed dancing and her trips to Spillville and visiting with relatives.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Balek, Mason City; one son, Joseph Eugene Balek, Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren, Karen Elaine, Joseph Michael, David Alan and Christina Marie; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth Joseph Balek; four brothers, Art, Clarence, Clifford and Francis Wade; and two sisters, Bertha Wade and Cecelia Wade Christensen.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., in charge of arrangements.
