May 15, 1997Mrs. Donna Lee Akerberg, 70, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, May 12, 1997 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services were held Thursday, May 15, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen and Rev. Donald Simmonds officiating. The body was cremated. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of services.
The family suggests memorials to the Hospice of North Iowa.
Donna was born May 30, 1926 in Huron, S.D., the daughter of Dick Edward and Leone (Bales) White. She graduated from Central High School, Sioux City, Iowa in 1944.
Donna married Warren Akerberg on May 31, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa. They moved to Clear Lake in 1951. She was secretary for Kimball-White Seed Co. in Clear Lake from 1952-54. She modeled for Lundberg's Clothing in 1956. Donna was secretary at the Congregational Church, Clear Lake in the 1970s.
Donna was one of the originators of Artichoke Two Antiques and a cofounder of Antique Alley in Clear Lake. She was a gray lady at North Iowa Medical Center for over 10 years.
Donna and Warren enjoyed spending the last 13 winters on their boat, Checkers, in Marathon, Fla., where she was a great first mate and pilot. Donna loved playing bridge, traveling, her friends and especially her family.
She is survived by her husband, Warren Akerberg, Clear Lake; three children, Jan Edward Akerberg and his wife, Nora, Clayton, Mo., Deby Lee Cassill, Talahasse, Fla., and Lon Paul Akerberg and his wife, Lynn, Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren, Daniel Cassill, Casie Akerberg, Nicholas Akerberg, Clinton Akerberg, Christopher Kelly and Alexander Akerberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Patty Henry.
