Judy Kay Arrowood, the daughter of Ted and Lena (Hundt) Abbas Sr., was born in Iowa City on Feb. 27, 1946. Judy was the youngest of 10 children and grew up in Bancroft. She graduated from Swea City High School in 1964 and went on to Waldorf College where she took classes for elementary education.

On Sept. 6, 1966, she was united in marriage to Greg Arrowood at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona. Judy was a switchboard operator at the local telephone office and later as a receptionist at KLGA. After Greg accepted a position at NIACC in 1988, the couple moved to Mason City.

Judy was a talented artist and poet. She would sit for hours on the floor painting. She enjoyed recycling old barn wood as her canvas. Judy was also very creative. She would make everyone their own unique birthday boxes, and whenever she gave someone a store-bought card, she would add her own touches to the design. Judy was also an accomplished salad maker, able to make a salad out of anything, with her signature being the ABC (apple, broccoli and cauliflower) salad. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening, but most of all her grandchildren. She adored them and called them her rainbow boys because they put a rainbow in her heart and each had their own color.

Judy was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City. She taught Sunday school and for a time, was in the choir at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Whittemore.

Judy Kay Arrowood passed away at home, under the care of Hospice, with her husband by her side after a 2-year battle with cancer on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at the age of 70. She never lost her smile, her sense of humor, her fighting spirit or her Faith in God.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Arrowood of Mason City; sons, Dave (Sonata) Arrowood of Algona and Jeff (Kim) Arrowood of Algona; grandchildren, Cane, Luke, Noah, Jacob and Cooper; siblings, Christina (Robert) Christen, Marge Asche, Ted (Sandy) Abbas, Delbert (Janice) Abbas, Derold (Ruby) Abbas, Elmer (Carol) Abbas; sister-in-law, Mary Abbas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Harold (Louise) Abbas, Arlene (Robert) Pate and John Abbas.
