CLEAR LAKE -- Harold T. Brood, 77, Clear Lake, died Dec. 1, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Open Bible Church, 609 S. Eighth St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.

Family will greet friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and one hour preceding the service at the church.

Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date. Military honors will be presented by the Clear Lake VFW.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in his name.

Harold Thomas was born June 30, 1937, in Swaledale, the son of Hans Peter and Marie (Kjorsgaard) Brood. He attended Swaledale schools and helped his father with the family farm. Harold married Marietta Devin on Jan. 4, 1964, in Thornton. He worked as a fertilizer salesman for First Mississippi Corp. and later IMC.

He enjoyed farming and raising hogs. He was always driving around and checking out the crops. He loved going to casinos and fishing trips. He enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren.

Harold is survived by his three children: Thomas (Laura) Brood, DeSoto, Wisconsin, Cynthia Winters, Clear Lake, and Stacy Brood, Clear Lake; five grandchildren: Elaina, Joseph, Alicia, Ericka and Courtney; brother Robert Brood, Swaledale, and sisters Esther Ward, Swaledale, and Karen Cornick, Mason City, IA.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marietta (Aug. 24, 2006), and two brothers Hans and Jack Brood.
