MASON CITY - Rex R. Bailey 84, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. Mason City.

Mason City -- Rex R. Bailey 84, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church 714 North Adams, with Reverend Jon M. Seda officiating, with a flag presentation service conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E. Mason City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Holy Family Catholic Church and Hospice of North Iowa.

Rex was born on May 20, 1923, in Dows, Iowa, the son of George Albert and Charlotte Jane Bailey. Rex enlisted into the United States Navy, July of 1942; serving in WWII on the USS Achelous and was recalled to service during the Korean War, later being honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Vernice Besch on October 16, 1948. Rex and Vernice owned and operated their own business, Bailey’s Floor Coverings, in Mason City for over 35 years.

Rex was a very active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Rotary for over 50 years, Elks, Knights of Columbus and the VFW; he was a volunteer for Hospice, and enjoyed golfing and traveling to Arizona.

He is survived by his beloved wife Vernice Bailey, Mason City, sister in law Lorry (William) Gorman, Mt. Prospect, Ill, and nephew Patrick J. Gorman, Barrington, Ill.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
