Ruth was born July 20, 1907, on their farm near Kensett, a daughter of John Thoen and Thea (nee) Reyerson Thoen. She attended rural schools and then worked as a waitress in Kensett, Northwood, Albert Lea and Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Harold Anderson in August 1941 in Mason City. They lived on the East Coast for three years while Harold served his country. Following his discharge from the service, they moved to Mason City. Ruth was active as a volunteer for the Red Cross and her love for children led her to driving handicapped children to school. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ruth has left as her survivors several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, in 1973; four sisters, Esther Hrubetz, Ida Brunsvold, Agnes Thoen and Norma Burass; and two brothers, Truman and Raymond Thoen.
