MASON CITY — Leo J. Ebeling, 86, formerly of 318 8th St. S.E., died Monday morning (Dec. 22, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors by the Mason City Memorial Association of the VFW and American Legion.

Leo was born on Sept. 18, 1917, in Mason City, the son of Peter and Philomena “Piwowar” Ebeling, and was one of four children.

He entered the Army on Feb. 15, 1943, and served until his honorable discharge on Nov. 9, 1945. He served his country in Europe as a T3 with the HQ 556 QM Service Group.

On Nov. 11, 1941, he was united in marriage to Lucille Watson at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Buffalo Center. To this union was born three children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Those thankful in sharing Leo’s life include his three children, Mary Jane and her husband, David Johnson, of Victoria, Minn., John and his wife, Jeannette, of Clear Lake, and Richard “Dick” and his wife, Julie, of Mason City; nine grandchildren, Paul Johnson, Deborah Lowe, Colleen Moore, Mike and Lori Ebeling, Tami Ferch, Ben and Sara Ebeling, and Jake Langhoff; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lucille in 1999; and three brothers, Henry, Fred and Joseph Ebeling.
