CLEAR LAKE - Evelyn Faye Thompson Ebeling, 90, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Mason City.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 100 Ninth Ave. S. in Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with a scripture wake service to be held at 7 p.m. The body will be cremated after the service. Inurnment will be held at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date.

Memorials may be given in the name of Evelyn F. Ebeling to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Evelyn was born Dec. 25, 1909, in Polk City, the daughter of John U. and Bertha (Mason) Thompson. She graduated from Mason City High School and from Hamilton Business College as a legal secretary.

She worked for the John Shipley Law firm, (now known as Laird Law Firm), for more than 40 years, retiring at the age of 65.

Evelyn married Fred Ebeling on Dec. 25, 1929, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. They lived in Mason City but enjoyed their summer residence in Clear Lake, where they moved permanently in 1967.

Evelyn loved her family and church. She was a former member of the North Iowa Girl Scout Council, former Girl Scout leader and a member of the board of directors of Good Shepherd.

She was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Iowa Preceptor, Alpha Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Mason City, charter member of the first chapter in Mason City of Alpha Chi, and a lifetime member of Iowa Exemplar Preceptor Alpha Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

Evelyn is survived by four children, Douglas Ebeling, of Phoenix, Ariz., Gary Ebeling and his wife, Alice, of Humboldt, Jane Ebeling and her husband, Reinart Huseby, of Hudson, Wis., and Tom Ebeling and his wife, Toni, of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren, Sheree Cran, Lori Funk, Lisa Bennett, Sandra Ebeling, David Ebeling, Michael Ebeling, Laura Gajdostik, Ann Paulisich, Paul Paulisich, Peter Ebeling, Paul Ebeling and Mark Ebeling; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher Cran, Katie Cran, Sarah Funk, Emily Funk, Brian Funk and Sydney Ebeling.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, who died Aug. 31, 1992; one brother, Julius Thompson; and one sister, Alma Avise.
