Shirley Evelyn Shurson, 86, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, March 20, 2016, at I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Steve Bang officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 28, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and then one hour before the service at the church. Family suggests memorials to Shirley Shurson Memorial Fund.

Shirley was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Kenneth, Minn., the daughter of Thomas and Selma “Sally” (Thu) Keane. She graduated from Waseca High School, Waseca, Minn. in 1947.

Shirley married Harold Shurson on Sept. 30, 1950, in Waseca, and to this union five children were born; Janice, Julie, Jacki, Joe and Jeanne. They lived in New Richland, Minn. until they moved to Clear Lake in 1963.

Shirley enjoyed being the family historian, crocheting, crosswords, reading and writing letters daily to family and friends. She loved all animals, especially her walking companion, Louie, the little white poodle mix. She also enjoyed many walks with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to places around Clear Lake. She enjoyed spending time with her friends with Grace Circle and the Wednesday morning Do Days at Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member.

Shirley is survived by her four children: Janice (Quentin) Anderson, Joice, Iowa, Julie (Allan) Angle, Clear Lake, Jacki (Jay) Lee, Mason City, and Joe (Irene) Shurson, Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Bridget (Ryan) Drapeaux, Megan Anderson, Andrea (Scott) Schmidt, Ben (Meg) Casebolt, Ashton Shurson, and Taylor (Ben) Thoma; two step-grandchildren, Craig Ziegenhorn and Julie (Daryl) Carson; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Schmidt, Emily Schmidt, Owen Drapeaux, Max Drapeaux, Cael Drapeaux, Sam Casebolt, Ally Carson and Cael Carson; her brother, Don (Marlys) Keane; two sisters, Janet Matz and Sally Ann (Jim) Howard; two brothers-in-law, Bud (Phyllis) Shurson and Vince Peterson; three sisters-in-law, Lorayne Shurson, Pat Shurson and Joan McGuire and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Jeanne; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and her favorite walking companion, Louie, who died the same week she did.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
