NORA SPRINGS - Doris E. Fitzgerald, 71, of Nora Springs, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. David Kucera officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a scriptural prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Doris Fitzgerald Memorial Fund.

Doris was born June 28, 1929, the daughter of George and Ada (Dutcher) Fredricks of Nora Springs. She grew up in Nora Springs, graduating from Nora Springs High School.

Doris worked at Marshall and Swift in Mason City until she was united in marriage to Bernard A. Fitzgerald on Oct. 23, 1948, in Mason City. After many years as a homemaker, Doris became a dental assistant for Dr. James Percival in Mason City.

She enjoyed gambling and traveling, especially to Phoenix in the winter and to Clear Lake for the summer. Doris also took great joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

Doris is survived by her son, Tom Fitzgerald, and his wife, Barb, of Mason City; her daughter, Jeannie Thul, of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Cory and Jeremy Fitzgerald of Mason City and Lindsey and David Thul of Phoenix, Ariz.; one great-grandchild, Dominick Fitzgerald of Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Bob (Frances) Kelley and Mrs. Darrel (Wanda) Walker, both of Nora Springs, and Mrs. James (Marjorie) Rockwell, of Ramona, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Melvin (Molly) Fredricks of Mason City and Mrs. Roger (Milly) Fredricks of Stacyville; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard; two brothers, Melvin "Mully" and Roger Fredricks; and a special friend, Kay Cahill.
