DeKalb, IllinoisDr. Christopher Lee Hedberg died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Loyola University Medical Center after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
Born Dec. 3, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of Arthur and Janet (Terry) Hedberg. He graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from medical school at the University of Iowa in 1985. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Iowa and then practiced dermatology in Mason City, Iowa, until joining the DeKalb Clinic in DeKalb, Ill., in 1994.
Patients and colleagues alike had high respect for his professionalism, friendliness and compassion. During his long illness, Dr. Hedberg and his family greatly appreciated the support and love offered by their many friends and family.
In 1986, he married Nancy Ann Anderson of Downers Grove, Ill., and together they had three children, Andrew Gene, Daniel Christopher and Amanda Jean.
Dr. Hedberg was a loving and much-loved husband and father, an avid fisherman and a lifelong Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
In addition to his wife and three children, Dr. Hedberg is survived by his parents; two brothers, Eric and Mark, and two sisters, Katherine and Mary Ellen, and their families.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeKalb, with the Rev. Joseph Gastiger officiating. Burial will be at Jericho Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to an educational fund for the Hedberg children would be gratefully accepted in care of Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home.
