Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaCARTERSVILLE - Romona (Cahalan) Smith, 90, formerly of Cartersville, died Monday (Dec. 9, 2002) at the home of her daughter in Fairfax, Iowa.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 316 Third St. N., in Rockwell, with the Rev. Dennis Chahill and the Rev. Patrick Geary officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St., N.E. in Mason City with a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Romona Catherine Smith Memorial Fund.
Romona Cahalan was born Dec. 10, 1911, to Harry and Johannah (O'Connor) Cahalan at Cartersville. She was united in marriage to C. L. Smith at St. John's Catholic Church in Cartersville.
Romona moved to Ames in 1985 and during the last six years she has lived in Fairfax with her daughter, Mary Catherine, and her husband Kenneth.
Romona is survived by two sons, Paul (Patricia) Smith of Rockwell and Charles (Jonette) Smith of Council Bluffs; three daughters, Joan (Harold) Dilts of Ames, Johannah (Bob) Guttropf of Denver, Colo., and Mary Catherine (Kenneth) Selzer of Fairfax; one sister, Mary Lou Anton, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Emerson (Rosemary) Cahalan of Mason City; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.L.; one sister, Dorothy; three brothers, Joseph, William, and Paul.
