Killed In Fall

Mrs. John [Bridget (Keeney)] Smith who, with her husband, resided a block north of Main street, was killed late Thursday [May 24, 1923] afternoon when she fell on the basement stairway. Mr. Smith had been down town for a short time and on his return found her lifeless body at the foot of the stairs.

The blood stains in the kitchen, where Mr. Smith had left her working, indicate that she was seized with a severe hemorrhage, and it is possible that in her illness she did not notice the open trap door leading to the basement.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith have been residents in this vicinity for over thirty years and for the past several years have lived in town. She was a member of the Catholic church, and was a loyal worker during her life.

Besides the husband she leaves two sons and two daughters of the immediate family to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and loving and affectionate mother. The children are William, who lives at the south edge of town, Vern of Dougherty, Mrs. James [Katherine] Penny, who lives on a farm near here, and Mrs. [Anna Mary] Holloran of Ackley.

Funeral services were held Saturday from Sacred Heart church, conducted by Rev. Hartigan, and interment was made in the [Sacred Heart] Catholic cemetery of Rockwell.

The sympathy of all is extended to the husband and bereaved children.
