MASON CITY - Dorothy A. Lewis, 96, of 1711 S. Harding Ave., Mason City, died Tuesday (May 4, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Craig E. Steimel and the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling concelebrating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell.

A visitation was held from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. Mason City, where a rosary was said at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy A. Lewis Memorial Fund.

Dorothy A. Lewis was born on Oct. 18, 1913, in Rockwell to Marshall and Edith (Kalke) Yarrow. She attended the Rockwell public school and graduated amongst the class of 1931.

On Aug. 9, 1931, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ambrose V. Lewis and to this union three children were born, a daughter, Dolores J. Lewis and two sons, Robert J. Lewis and David M. Lewis.

Dorothy worked outside the home for many years, four of those years having been spent at the Bluebird Grocery, two years at Lyons Laundry and 15 years working for Central Heights Grocery.

Some of Dorothy's hobbies included gardening and playing cards. She was also an avid reader.

Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City where she enjoyed being a member of the St. Teresa circle.

She is survived by two sons, David Lewis, of Mason City and Robert (Edith) Lewis, of Midwest City, Okla.; two grandsons, Paul Lewis, of Oklahoma City, and James Lewis, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Those preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; husband, Ambrose; daughter, Dolores Joanne Lewis; siblings, Marge Gibson, Ruth Campbell, Madelyn Nelson, Evelyn Sherwood and Clifford "Cricket" Yarrow.
