John Arthur Jermeland was born to Theodore and Lena Knutson Jermeland in Ossian, Iowa [May 5, 1931]. He worked for Decker's Meat Packing Company, Mason City, Iowa. He married Arlene Marie Holder in June 11, 1966 at Holy Name Church in West Union, Iowa. To this union they had four children: two sons name Allen (Bridget) and Steven (Tori). Also two daughters, Julie Rutledge, Blacksburg, Virginia and Pamela Peden, North Liberty, survive.

He passed away at Mercy Hospice Care Unit in Iowa City [March 30, 1993]. Burial was held on April 2, 1993 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Rockwell, Iowa
