E. Downing funeral set for Friday

Requiem high Mass will be celebrated for Edward J. Downing, 65, Swaledale, at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Swaledale. The Rev. Raymond S. Bohrer, pastor, will be celebrant.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Rockwell. The Rosary has been scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patterson-James-Murphy Chapel in Rockwell. Visitation has been scheduled until 9 a.m. Friday.

Mr. Downing, a retired bookkeeper, died Wednesday at a Clear Lake nursing home. He had been employed by the Lloyd Fesslers, John Jindrich & Sons and Peterson Implement, all of Swaledale.

He was born Feb. 7, 1899, at Swaledale, son of Bernard and Mary (Mulligan) Downing. He had lived in the community his entire life, and was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Swaledale.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Loretta) Derry, Swaledale, and Mrs. T. J. (Hazella) Chambers, Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents.
