ROCKWELL - A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral services of Edward E. Downing Monday morning at Sacred Heart church, Rockwell. Solemn requiem high mass was celebrated with the Rev. Norbert Barrett, celebrant; the Rev. John Hartigan of Iowa Falls as deacon; the Rev. J. Collins of Dougherty as sub-deacon; and the Rev. P. J. Boyle of Strawberry Point as master of ceremonies.

Edward Eugene Downing was born at Waukon, May 6, 1872, one of six children of Edward and Ann Mooney Downing. From Waukon the family moved to a farm near Ossian, where they lived several years. In the spring of 1884, he moved with his parents to a farm near Swaledale, where he grew to manhood.

On Sept. 18, 1900, he was married to Mary McGee of Rockwell. To this union were born five children, all of whome survive. Ann and Agatha at home, Daniel and Margaret of Mason City and Frances of Charles City.

In 1914 he moved from his farm near Swaledale to his home in Rockwell, where he resided until his death Friday. Besides his wife and children he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Hart of Swaledale and Mrs. M. M. Gaffney of Clear Lake.

Pallbearers were six nephews, Francis Hart, John Hart and Raymond Derry of Swaledale; Walter Derry of Mason City; Justin Regan and Walter McGee of Dougherty.
