M.J. Curley, 68, retired farmer, dies

Michael J. Curley, 68, retired farmer of Rockwell, died Tuesday morning in a Mason City hospital. He had lived in the area of Rockwell 56 years and was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Curley was born Jan. 24, 1898, in Chicago, son of Michael and Mary Ellen (Conrin) Curley. He was married to Luella Johnson, June 11, 1924, in Waterloo.

Surviving are his wife, Luella, Rockwell: two sons, Robert and Joseph Curley, both of Rockwell; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Clausen, Mason City, Mrs. Harold (Patrica) Lambert, Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Peter (Marceille) Freund, Rockwell; and 15 grandchildren.

A brother, James Curley, and a sister, Mrs. George (Mamie) Sturges, both of Rockwell, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Martin in 1965; a daughter in infancy; and a sister, Mrs. Martin Gallagher, in December 1965 in St. Paul, Minn.

Mr. Curley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Rockwell and the American Legion Gallahger Post 208 of Rockwell.

Requiem high Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Rockwell. The Rev. Raymond S. Bohrer, pastor of the church, will be celebrant.

Pallbearers selected at Maurice Cassidy, Hugh Coyle, William Hejlik, George School, William Gibson and Dr. John Atkinson. Mrs. Maurice Cassidy and Mrs. Clive Wyke will be in charge of flowers. Leo McLaughlin and J. B. McGaheran will be ushers at the church.

Military rites will be conducted by Gallagher Post 208 American Legion at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Rockwell.

The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Patterson-James Murphy Chapel, Rockwell. Visitation at the chapel has been set from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
