RITES MONDAY FOR HARRY WELKER, 82

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Harry (Tip) Welker, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wilcox Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Ellingson, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Welker died Friday of self-inflicted gunshot wounds, according to medical examiner’s report. He was found in the back seat of his car on his farm four miles south and one and one-fourth miles west of Clear Lake about noon by Mrs. Robert Gerdes, who lives across the road. The car was parked behind a corn crib. Mrs. Gerdes had been called to investigate by Mrs. Roy Badker, Welker’s daughter, after he failed to come home for lunch at his home, 901 5th Ave. S.

Dr. J.E. Christopherson, Cerro Gordo County medical examiner, estimated the time of death at 11 a.m. He said that Mr. Welker had a recent physical checkup that showed he was in slightly failing health, but he had no serious illness.

Harry Howard Welker was born Aug. 19, 1878, in Rochelle, Ill., the son of Theodore and Mamie O’Connor Welker. He was married to Mary Juhl Nov. 23, 1901, in Mason City. They lived in Thornton for a short time and have been residents in the Clear Lake area for 60 years.

Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Badker; one son, Howard; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Georgie) VonBloricom, West Des Moines; Mrs. Clifford (Daisy) Sweiger, San Pedro, Calif.; Mrs. John (Eunice) Hohler, Charles City, and one brother, Ward, San Pedro, Calif. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Welker was a member of the Farm Bureau, Clear Lake Cooperative Marketing Association, North Iowa Golden Wedding Jubilee Club and Retired Farmers Club.
