EX-LAKE COUNCILMAN ARTHUR PETERSEN DIES

CLEAR LAKE – Former Clear Lake City Council Arthur G. Petersen, 82, of 716 N. 10th Street, Clear Lake, died Monday (Sept. 22, 1986) at a Mason City hospital.

Mr. Petersen had served on the Clear Lake City Council from 1972-80 and served as mayor pro tem in Clear Lake from 1976-1980.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church, 915 2nd Place N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Ubbelohde officiating.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th, Clear Lake.

The body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Petersen was born May 11, 1904 at Clear Lake to George P. and Mary C. (Paulsen) Petersen. He attended Clear Lake schools and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1921. Mr. Petersen attended the University of Iowa and studied engineering. He also earned a varsity letter in swimming at the U of I. He married Gretchen S. Blackmore Dec. 24, 1930 in Clear Lake.

Mr. Petersen worked in the city engineering office in Clear Lake for a time. For many years he was employed by Petersen Construction Co., Clear Lake, retiring in 1971. For a few years he worked with Henkel Construction Co., Mason City.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, and was presently serving on the Clear Lake Annexation Study Committee. He was a member of the Senior Chamber of Commerce and a past board member of the North Iowa Council of Governments.

Survivors include his wife, Gretchen, Clear Lake; one son, Allan, Clear Lake; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dorance (Ruth) Day, Ventura, and two brothers, Fred. A., Hollywood, Fla., and Peter O., Clear Lake.
