DIED - ALMENA DUNCAN
ALMENA DUNCAN – At her home in this city, on Saturday, April 20, 1895, Mrs. Thomas Duncan, aged 78 years, 7 months and 26 days.

Almena L. Thomas was born in Herkimer county, N.Y., August 24, 1816. When a young woman she removed with her parents to Canada, where she was married in 1838 to Thomas Duncan, in of Lesmahago, Lanarkshire, Scotland. From Canada they removed to McHenry county, Illinois, in 1846 and in 1863 they came to Clear Lake where she has since made her home, with the exception of a few years, when she resided with her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Tompkins, in Mason City. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom are living: Mrs. Azubah Frost and Mrs. Jean Tompkins, of this city and the Misses Janet and Marion Duncan, of Mason City. She had a brother, Mr. Anson Thomas, of this city, and a brother and sister living in Canada.

Mrs. Duncan was a consistent member of the Episcopal church, a woman of marked ability and held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. About two years ago she sustained a severe stroke of paralysis from which she never fully rallied, and she gradually declined until the end. The funeral was held at the Tompkins residence on Monday, conducted by Rev. D. J. Mason.
