Michael J. Moeller

SIOUX CITY - Michael J. Moeller, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at a local care facility.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Roger Linnan will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mike was born June 1, 1936, in Mason City, Iowa, to Arnold and Ruth (Anderson) Moeller. Mike grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa, and enjoyed sports and sailing. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1954 and then from Iowa State University in May of 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Administration. He belonged to the Sigma Nu Fraternity and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Knoll and ISU Alumni Association, and received a Service Key Award from ISU. He was active in both the Mason City and Sioux City Cyclone Clubs.

Mike married Beverly Duesenberg on Aug. 31, 1956, in Clear Lake.

Mike started working at the First National Bank in Mason City in July of 1958, in the corporate training program of the Minneapolis-based Northwest Bancorporation. In 1972 he transferred to the company’s bank in Sioux City, known as Northwestern National Bank (later Norwest) as executive vice president to spearhead the opening of the Norwest Downtown Financial Center. He was promoted to president and CEO of Norwest Bank of Sioux City in 1982. He retired from Norwest (now Wells Fargo) in 1999.

In Sioux City, Mike was active in numerous community organizations including serving on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the board of trustees of the Sioux City Art Center, president of the Siouxland Industrial Development Council, chairman of the Siouxland Initiative II, chairman of the Siouxland United Way Campaign in 1990, corporate chairman for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation’s “Walk for the Cure,” treasurer of the Sioux City Public Library Foundation, director and chairman of the Marian Health Center Financial Committee, trustee for Briar Cliff College, Board of the Catholic School Foundation, Diocesan Corporate Board and Trustee Board for the Priests’ Pension Fund.

Mike was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and served on the board of directors of Catholic Charities. He and Beverly were awarded the Briar Cliff Medal of Honor in 1997. Mike was a member and past director of the Sioux City Country Club. He enjoyed golfing and made a hole-in-one at Imperial Golf Club of Naples, Fla., where he and Beverly wintered for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; three children: Ann Rickord and her husband, Bill, John Moeller and his wife, Amy, and Richard Moeller and his wife, Denise, all of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Brett and M.J. Rickord, Andrew and Michelle Moeller, Benjamin, Stephen and Maggie Moeller; a sister-in-law: Mary Moeller of Clear Lake, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Steven A. Moeller; and a grandson, Joseph David Moeller.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
