Obituary for LaVohn M. Badker

LaVohn M. Badker, 88, of Garner, Iowa formerly Clear Lake, Iowa died Wednesday Nov. 25, 2015 at the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa.

A celebration of LaVohn life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday December 1, 2015 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake and then one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church. Family suggests memorials to Clear Lake United Methodist Church Guild Fund or Hospice of North Iowa.

LaVohn was born April 1, 1927 in Klemme, Iowa the daughter of Werner and Mable (Rosendahl) Schlawin. She was baptized and confirmed at Reformed and Evangelical Church, Klemme, Iowa. In early teens she enjoyed showing show cattle and being involved in 4H.

Following graduating from Klemme High School in 1944 she graduated from Cosmetology in Des Moines and has been a licensed beautician for over 50 + years. She worked at various beauty salons including Rose’s, Garner, Iowa, Ruth Toppin Unique Beauty Shop, Clear Lake, Iowa and manicurist at Hair West.

LaVohn married a veteran and farmer, Wayne “Bud” Badker in Sept. 7, 1947 Reformed Evangelical Church, Klemme, Iowa. They lived on various farms and then settled on the home place south of Clear Lake. They raised and trained Quarter Horses and showed Pony of America’s. They traveled with the two grandsons to horse and pony shows, May through Mid-October about every weekend. Besides sewing western shirts and giving ponies a bath for horse shows, she was active in the Clear Lake United Methodist Church Alter Guild, Veterans Auxiliary and was Secretary of North Iowa Snowmobile Club. She enjoyed snowmobiling, until they discovered the warm weather in Arizona and playing golf.

She is survived by her son Dennis (Karen) Badker, Clear Lake, Iowa; two grandsons Scott (Tina) Badker, Klemme, Iowa and Curt (Michele) Badker, Clear Lake, Iowa; two great-grandsons Drake and Carson Badker; three step-great grandchildren Wade and Austin Lohman and Michaela Delzer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
