FERD S. MATSON

CLEAR LAKE – Ferd S. Matson, 88, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (Aug. 8, 1992) at Americana Healthcare Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. The Rev. Murley Severtson of Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday morning prior to service time at the funeral home.

Ferd S. Matson was born April 9, 1904, at Altoona, Ill., the son of Nels and Emma (Strom) Matson. He attended school at Chapin before moving to a farm north of Clear Lake in 1921. He resided there ever since. On Nov. 18, 1937, he married Ruby Shook at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

He was employed as an agent for Cerro Gordo County Mutual Insurance for 25 years. He was director of Lincoln Township Rural School and later served on the Clear Lake School Board. He served on the Farmer’s Co-op board of directors and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Matson of Clear Lake; two sons, Jon and wife, Linda Matson, Hanlontown, and Arvid and wife, Dixie Matson, Clear Lake; one sister, Dorothy Newberg, Mason City; five granddaughters, Shelly Benton, Mindy and Marcy Matson, Tammy Wageman and Becky Gray; and four great-grandchildren, Luke and Ashley Wageman, Isaiah Gray and Rachel Benton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Hans; and a sister, Frances Lyons.
