HOLD RITES FOR LAKE RESIDENT
FUNERAL SERVICE FOR MRS. B.H. MATTHEWS CONDUCTED AT CHURCH

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services for Mrs. B.H. Matthews, 67, who died at a Mason City hospital Sunday morning following a heart attack, were held at the First Congregational church Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. J.B. Calhoun, pastor, conducted the rites and burial was in Clear Lake cemetery. Ward’s funeral home made the arrangements.

Four grandsons, Alden and Burtis Matthews and Jack and Robert Conklin, and Robert and Crosby Ingersoll were pallbearers. Mrs. Bertha Patchen, Mason City, played obsequial music at the opening and close of the service and Mesdames Ingersoll, M.P. Hughes and L.E. Ashland arranged the flowers.

Annette Jackson was born Dec. 15, 1872, at Geneva, Ill., and grew to young womanhood in that vicinity. She was married to B. H. Matthews Aug. 31, 1892, at Elgin, Ill. and a year later the couple moved to Hull where they resided until 1898 when they came to Clear Lake. Mr. Matthews died Dec. 12, 1939.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by five children, Harold, of Grinnell, Mrs. Harry Conklin, Osage; Roderic, Philadelphia, Pa.; Jack, Strawberry Point, and Mrs. LeRoy Knutson, Elkader; ten grandchildren and two brothers, Elmer Jackson, Hines City, Fla., and J. J. Jackson, Chicago.

All of the children were present at the funeral together with Mrs. Harold Matthews, Mrs. Jack Matthews, Mr. Conklin and Dr. Knutson.

Mrs. Matthews was a lifelong member of the Congregational church and, until her health failed, she was a member of Clear Lake temple of No. 83, Pythian Sisters, and of the Progress club.
