PIONEER IS TAKEN BY DEATH
LEVI MILES, A RESIDENT OF CLEAR LAKE SINCE 1876, DIED AT HIS HOME THURSDAY

Levi Miles, a pioneer resident of Clear Lake and one of the most respected citizens of Cerro Gordo county, passed away at his home on east Main Street Thursday afternoon, June 19.

Mr. Miles had enjoyed good health until about three years ago when he was forced to undergo an operation at the Park Hospital, Mason City, for cancer. Following this he improved rapidly for several months, then began a rapid decline which was not checked, despite the efforts of the physicians, until he was called by death.

Mr. Miles was born on a farm near Cameron Mills, N.Y. Nov. 18, 1849, and remained there with his parents until he was 23 years of age, when he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Wilhelm, at Addison, N.Y.

In 1876 they decided to come west and they moved to Clear lake, locating on a farm south of the city where they resided until about eight years ago when they moved to town to live.

To Mr. and Mrs. Miles five children were born; Frank, John, Earnest, Edward and Mrs. C.O. Borton, all of whom reside in Clear Lake.

Besides the immediate family Mr. Miles is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Margaret Chamberlain, of Sioux City and Mrs. Martha Crawford, of Cameron Mills, N.Y., and two brothers, Samuel Miles, of Idaho, and Isaac Miles of North Dakota.

Funeral services were held from the Congregational church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. A. W. Swinden. Interment was made in the Clear Lake cemetery.

In his long residence here Mr. Miles made many friends who mourn his death as they would one of their own relatives.
