MRS. WALTER A. AMES

Funeral services were conducted Aug. 2 for Mrs. Walter A. Ames, 92, at the Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenneth Ubbelohde of the Congregational Church officiated at 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Tom Treloar was organist. Pallbearers were James Anderson, Donald Stanton, Dorance Day, F.P. Walker, George Klaassen, Lael Root, Norman Allison and E.B. Stillman. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Viva Cole Ames was born June 12, 1883 at Britt, the daughter of Dr. A.J. and Helen (Hofmeister) Cole. Her father was a pioneer medical doctor in North Iowa.

She was graduated from Britt High School in 1900 and from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1904.

She was married to Walter A. Ames on June 23, 1909. They made their home in Minneapolis before moving to Clear Lake in 1913.Mr. Ames was in the real estate and insurance business. Among other promotions, he was the builder and operator of the Clear Lake Country Club. Mr. Ames died in 1964. Mrs. Ames has been in a Clear Lake nursing home for the past six years where she died July 30.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Charlotte) Hammond, Hillsboro, Ill.; one granddaughter, Martha Hammond, Sparta, Tenn., and a niece, Mrs. Gerald (Helen) Brooks, Clear Lake.

Mrs. Ames was a member of the Congregational Church and formerly of Park Chapter No. 35, Eastern Star and the Crescent Club.

Transcriber’s Note – Viva Ames was born June 12, 1883, died July 30, 1975 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section D Row 4.
