HELEN MAE QUINLAN

CLEAR LAKE – Mrs. Helen Mae Quinlan, 73, of 7 East Gate Court, Clear Lake, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 1990) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Patrick Clinton officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday at ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Memorials may be made in her name.

Mrs. Quinlan was born April 22, 1917, in Thornton to John and Grace (Crapser) Caspers. She graduated from Thornton High School in 1934. She then attended Minneapolis Institute of Art from 1935-36 and lived in Minneapolis until her marriage to John Joseph Quinlan on May 28, 1939, in Minneapolis.

They moved to Swaledale in 1943. She was a member of the Swaledale School Board. They moved to the family farm in rural Thornton in the early 1950s and moved to Mason City in 1964. She worked as a sewing instructor for Singer Sewing Company for several years. From 1974-78 she worked for the Department of Social Services as a case worker.

She moved to Clear Lake in 1985. She loved traveling, oil painting and sewing.

She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thornton; a 20-year member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City; and a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake at the time of her death. She also was a member of the Executive Club in Mason City.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Rosemary) Brady of Clear Lake; two sons, Jim Quinlan, Swaledale, and David C. Quinlan of Dalhart, Texas; four grandchildren, Suzanne Gettman, John G. Brady and Connie and Robert Quinlan; and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Gettmen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1976; one son, Timothy; and infant twin brother and sister.
