OBITUARY OF WILLIAM HARPER

Another of the old familiar figures will mingle with us no more. William Harper was born in Harpersfield, New York, March 9, 1833, died at Whatcheer, Iowa, on January 20, 1916, in his 83rd year. His four sisters and a brother have preceded him into the better world. He was the last of the Harper family. At the age of 9 years he came with his parents to Wolworth Co., Wisconsin. In March 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Buell, whose death occurred at Clear Lake, Ia., on Sept. 5, 1904. To this union two children were born, Miss Bertha of Whatcheer, Ia., and a boy who died at the age of 3 years.

In 1879 he moved his family to Iowa, locating on the farm in Grant township, where they resided until moving to Clear Lake in the spring of 1903. About three years ago he moved to Whatcheer to make his home with his daughter.

He was a member of the Congregational church at Clear Lake. Death came as a result of the grip after an illness of four weeks. A short service was held at the home Saturday afternoon and the body was shipped to Clear Lake.

He had always expressed a desire to visit his boyhood home, and last summer he did so, spending a month in New York and Pennsylvania.

When his suffering became so great his only request was that God would come and take him.

Funeral services were conducted in the Congregational church Sunday, January 23, at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Frank Moore, former pastor here, but now of Waterloo, Ia., and burial made in the Clear Lake cemetery. A loyal friend and neighbor and devoted Christian has gone to his reward.
