WILLIAM SCHERF DIES SUDDENLY
RITES AT METHODIST CHURCH NOV. 22

CLEAR LAKE – William Scherf, 80, died suddenly at his home, 204 South Shore Drive, Sunday morning. He had not been ill and was planning to attend church. He had been out hunting Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Warner M. Hubbard, pastor, will conduct the rites and burial will be in Clear Lake cemetery. Ward’s funeral home is in charge.

Mr. Scherf was born at Charles City Oct. 26, 1870, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Scherf, and moved with his parents to Clear Lake township when 4 years of age. He was married to Miss Minnie Thomas, Ventura, at the Pioneer church southwest of Clear Lake March 12, 1891, by the Rev. R. R. Wood, Pastor.

They lived on a farm and in Ventura until 40 years ago when they came to Clear Lake. Mr. Scherf became an auto salesman and traveled for machinery and hardware firms. He served on the city council 6 terms and has since been city weed commissioner and worked with the county weed commission. He also worked on election boards in the 2nd ward.

Besides his wife, Mr. Scherf is survived by 3 children, Mrs. Don Underkofler, Bloomfield; Harry Scherf, Waverly, and Ray Scherf, Indianapolis, Ind.; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers, Frank and Bert, Cohassett, Minn.; Milo, Mason City, and James, Clear Lake, Wis.; and 2 sisters, Mrs. George Harthan, Cohassett, and Mrs. P. W. Palmer, Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Edward. He was a member of the Methodist church.
