F. BATATIS, 60, DIES AT HOME
RITES FOR WORLD WAR I VETERAN THURSDAY, 9

CLEAR LAKE – Requiem high mass for Frank Batatis, 60, World War I veteran, who died at his home just east of the city limits Sunday morning at 9:40 following a long illness, will be sung at St. Patrick’s Catholic church Thursday morning at 9. The Rev. J. J. Buzynski, pastor, is celebrant. Ward’s funeral home is in charge of arrangements and burial will be in Clear Lake cemetery.

Mr. Batatis was born in East Prussia, Germany, Aug. 18, 1886, son of Mr. and Mrs. Schultz Batatis, and came to America when 7 years of age, living in Chicago until 20 years ago when he moved to Clear Lake for the benefit of his health.

He was married in Chicago Feb. 18, 1921 to Miss Emma Curtis and they operated a delicatessen store at Halsted and Adams until they sold out to come to Clear Lake where they had a truck garden and chicken ranch.

Besides his wife, Mr. Batatis is survived by 4 daughters; Miss Frances, who has recently completed a nurse’s course at Mercy hospital, Mason City; Betty Ann, 17, and Theresa, 16, juniors in the local high school, and Phyllis, 13, 8th grade, and a brother, Joe, Mason City.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Saratoga post No. 4868, VFW, and Stafford post No. 222, American Legion. Military honors will be accorded him at the graveside.

Expected to attend the funeral are Mmes. Paul Wilson, Lloyd Tyler, Cecil Canter and Ruth Miner, Chicago; Mrs. A. C. Cerney, Dubuque, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gergis, Minneapolis.
