EMMA BATATIS

Funeral Mass was said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for Mrs. Frank (Emma) Batatis, 73, who died Sunday at her home, 705 2nd Ave. N. She had been in ill health over the past years. The Rev. James F. Delay was officiant.

Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward Van Slyke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Emma Lee Batatis was born July 21, 1901 at Dubuque, Ia., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Curtis. She received her education in Dubuque, later moving to Chicago where she was a fur designer for Marshall Field Company.

She was married to Frank Batatis in 1922. In 1928 because of the health of Mr. Batatis, they moved to an acreage on the northeast edge of Clear Lake where they did truck farming. Mrs. Batatis had formerly worked for the Clear Lake Country Club and the Clear Lake Bakery.

Mr. Batatis preceded her in death in 1946. She was also preceded in death by one son and one daughter.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. William (Frances) Murray, Tuscon, Ariz.; Mrs. Betty Rambler, Overland Park, Kan.; Mrs. Leo (Teresa) Smith, Faribault, Minn. and Phyllis Ruth Batatis, Clear Lake; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Tyler, Aurora, Ill.; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
