CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, for Mrs. Anna E. Bates, 86, of Clear Lake, who died Tuesday (June 23, 1987) at a Clear Lake nursing home.

The Rev. Daird Korth will officiate and burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, where a prayer service will be held at 8 tonight.

The family requests memorials be made to the Anna E. Bates memorial Fund.

Mrs. Bates was born March 13, 1901, in Joliet, Ill., to Louis and Amelia (Affeldt) Hiller. She attended school in Joliet, Ill., and moved to Clear Lake in 1911. She married Glenn Bates in December 1925 in Joliet, Ill. She had lived most of her life in the Clear Lake area.

Mrs. Bates operated the former Cerro Gordo Hotel Café, Mason City, and had worked at Witke’s Café and Gift Shop, Clear Lake, and later the Clear Lake Bakery.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura.

A sister, Mrs. Ida Bast, Clear Lake, survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and two brothers.
