DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT

The death of Samuel Boal, which occurred December 16 at 8:30 p.m. was not unexpected. Mr. Boal had reached a ripe old age and had long been living on borrowed time. There was a noticeable failure in his health some three or four years ago and his mental and physical powers gradually gave way so that he had not been up town since last April and for some time it was seen that the end was near.

Deceased was born near Belfast, Ireland, September 13, 1819 and came to New York in 1842, to Illinois in 1861, and to Clear Lake in 1876. He was the last of a large and vigorous family consisting of four brothers and three sisters. At Freeport, Ill., November 27, 1867, he was married to Mary A. Mannion who survives him; also their four children, Miss Agnes Boal, Mrs. Abbie Williams and the two sons, Jas. H. and Samuel J.

During his long residence in Clear Lake Mr. Boal had gained the respect and friendship of all who knew him. He had a wide acquaintance and was highly esteemed. His word was as good as his bond and in all business transactions he was the soul of honor. More so than can usually be remarked on similar occasions we can say he was a good old man and this is the universal form of expression.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. Frank Moore, were held at the late residence of the deceased on Friday at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment in Clear Lake cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note – Samuel Boal was born September 13, 1819 and died December 16, 1903.
