CLARENCE BAST

Clarence Bernard Bast was born Feb. 2, 1902 at Shannon, Ill., the son of Conrad and Alma Bast.

In 1913 the family moved to a farm in the Garner area. He received his education in the Shannon and Garner area, and later farmed with his parents.

Bast was married to Ida Hiller on Dec. 19, 1924 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They farmed north of Garner and later moved to their farm south of Ventura. Mr. and Mrs. Bast retired in 1974 and moved to Clear Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; two daughters, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Hinrichs and Mrs. Don (Delores) Ackarman, both of Clear Lake; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray of Clear Lake in 1976 and by two sisters.

Bast had served as a director of rural Cerro Gordo County schools and the Ventura Co-op elevator. He was a charter member of the Ventura Gun Club and the Ventura Fire Protection Association. Bast died on Sunday afternoon at a Mason City hospital at the age of 76.

Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, (today), Dec. 20.

Officiating will be Father Raymond Bohrer, of Holy Family Church, Mason City and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital chaplain. Organist will be Mrs. Jerry Faber. Interment will be at Clear Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Larry Wilson, Charlie Thronson, Jim Ormsby, Emmet Hoyt, Holgar Jorgenson, Everett Hollatz, Lubbe Albers and Max Christensen.
