Obituary - Leonard E. Bailey
September 14, 1933 ~ March 02, 2006

FERTILE IA -- Leonard E. Bailey, 72 of Fertile died Thursday (March 2, 2006) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, IA.

Funeral services will be held @ 11:00 am Tuesday March 7, 2006 at the Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile with Lay Pastor David Halverson officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, IA. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Monday (March 6) at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St, Clear Lake. Memorials may be made to the Leonard E. Bailey Memorial Fund.

Leonard was born September 14, 1933 to Fitch O. and Edna A. (Turner) Bailey. Leonard was married July 1, 1954 to JoAnn M. Burtness in Fertile, Iowa where they lived for many years during that time Leonard was the Chief of the Fertile Fire Department he was also a town council member. He took great pride in the new fire building when it was built. Leonard delivered coal for the Fertile Lumber Company for many years until going to Winnebago Industries where he worked until retirement. Leonard also ran the town snow plow for Fertile for many years.

Leonard loved fishing especially his yearly trips to Canada with many family and friends, except for the one where his daughter Melody was born early and he ended up bringing a bus home. Later on in life he looked forward to and very much enjoyed his weekly drives just tooling around the lake with his daughter Jodie.

Leonard really liked living at Oakwood Care Center for over 10 years. He was a great help with feeding the squirrels and setting the tables for lunch and supper. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Care Center for their years of taking such good care of and putting up with Leonard. He felt very much at home there GOD BLESS YOU AND THANK YOU.

Leonard is survived by and will be greatly missed by his three children Melody Morse of Clear Lake; Lonnie Bailey of Forest City and special friend Cheri Schmidt; Jodie (Rex) McChesney of Clear Lake; Grandchildren, Christopher Morse and finance Brandi Rayburn, Jessica (Shawn) Miller, Amanda Morse and fiance Brad Boesenberg, Angela Litzel, Nicholas (Alison) Bailey, Seth McChesney and Sean McChesney; Great-Grandchildren, Christina Litzel, McKenzie Miller and Dylan Litzel; Brother of Douglas Bailey, Donovan (Dorothy) Bailey, Meredith (Fran) Bailey, Marge (Gary) Frandsen , Ramona (Leroy) Baker, Patricia (Jack) Behne, Brother-in-law of Maxine Bailey and Hilda Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Jerry, Raymond and Robert, 2 sisters Rovine and infant Janice.
