MRS. V. HINDS FUNERAL RITES ARE SATURDAY

CLEAR LAKE – Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home for Mrs. Vern (Frances E.) Hinds, 72, 109 N. 10th St., who died suddenly Tuesday at Sioux City. Mrs. Hinds was visiting in the home of her son, Dr. V. Strode Hinds where she had been planning to spend Thanksgiving.

The Rev. Alvern Kinrade of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Hinds was born Feb. 6, 1899, at Henderson, Ill., the daughter of Jasper and Mary (Junk) Strode. She received her education in Henderson and Knox College, Galesburg, Ill. She taught school at Alexis and Monmouth and was married to Verner A. Hinds, Aug. 12, 1926 at Galesburg.

They moved to Clear Lake where he was a plumbing contractor from 1927 to 1932. He then worked for the city of Clear Lake and before retiring was superintendent of the water treatment plant. Mr. Hinds preceded his wife in death on the same day a year ago, Nov. 23, 1970.

Besides her son, Dr. Hinds, Mrs. Hinds is survived by his family and three grandchildren, Mark, Steven and Lynne; one brother, Jeff Strode, Chicago, Ill.; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Lehme) Nunn, Carlsbad, N.M.; Mrs. H. V. (Barbara) Ruth and Miss Marie Strode, both of Chicago.

Organist is Mrs. Frances Miller.

Pallbearers selected include Keith Raw. William Rich, Edwin Callanan, Clayton Lau, Arleigh Eddy and Lloyd Kennedy.

Transcriber’s Note – Frances E. Hinds was born February 6, 1899, died November 23, 1971 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section 4 Row 10.
