GLADYCE BALES

Gladyce L. Bales, 80, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, June 13, at the Hospice of North Iowa care center, Mason City.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Charles Williams, officiating. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation began after 4 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.

Memorials may be given to First Congregational Church or Clear Lake Fire Department Rescue Squad.

Gladyce L. Bales was born Aug. 16, 1911, at Manning, the daughter of William and Emma (Rowedder) Langbehn. She moved to South Dakota as a child and attended school in Wolsey. In 1940, she worked as a waitress for Brittinhams CBS Restaurant in Hollywood, Calif., serving many famous musicians and movie stars. On Sept. 6, 1941, she married Ira L. Bales at the Little Brown Church, Hollywood, Calif. The couple moved to Clear Lake in 1951. She worked with her husband at the Shrimp Castle Restaurant in Clear Lake. She worked for several years at Yonkers and Lundberg’s clothing stores in Mason City.

She loved to do visiting for the church, reading and the outdoors. She was a great friend, wonderful mom and a thoughtful grandmother.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Women’s Fellowship and Clear Lake Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Bales and wife, Karen, Clear Lake, and Ken Bales and wife, Joan, Mason City; one brother, Kenneth Langbehn, Wolsey, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Brad Bales, Independence, Mo., Todd and Trent Bales, both of Clear Lake, Eric Bales, Mason City, Troy Bales, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ryan Bales, Vacaville, Calif.; and five great grandchildren, Anissa and Kirstin Masters, Erin, Tyler and Tatum Bales.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Pallbearers were Trent Bales, Eric Bales, Todd Bales, Ron Langbehn, Brad Bales and Jim Ransom.

Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Bales, Lisa Masters, Troy Bales and Jason Masters.

Transcriber’s Note - Gladyce Bales was born August 16, 1911, died June 13, 1992 and was buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Section H Row 4.
