M. W. BROERS, 76, DIES NEAR HOME
Funeral services for Menke Walrick Broers, 76, who died near his home on West Street Thursday morning of a heart attack, were held Saturday afternoon at the Ward funeral home. The rites were conducted by E. B. Jamison, Mason City and Oliver Smith, Waterloo. Several hymns were sung. Flowers were arranged by Mmes. Grant Fox and Harold Crandall. Pallbearers were Dr. H. C. Krueger, Charles Savage, E. J. Meiners, E. E. Smith, George Lunn and Roy Hammond. Burial was in the Clear Lake cemetery.
Mr. Broers was born Oct. 29, 1869, at Galesburg, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walrich D. Broers. When two years of age he came with his parents to Cerro Gordo county and settled on a farm south of Mason City where he grew to manhood.
June 10, 1898, he was married to Mary Amendt, Rockwell, who survives. They lived on the same farm for 28 years, then on a farm nearer Clear Lake eight years, moving into town five years ago.
Besides his wife, Mr. Broers is survived by three children, William Broers, Mason City; David Broers, Clear Lake, and Mrs. W. G. Myers, 528 Northwest Center Street; three grandchildren, Donald, Wayne and Shirley Broers; two brothers, B. W. Broers and J. W. Broers, Mason City, and a sister, Mrs. John Paulson, Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Walter W. Broers.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Drestlemeier and Alvin, Rockwell.
