MRS. BORTON, 64, DIES AT HOME SUNDAY NIGHT
SERVICES HELD AT CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH WEDNESDAYMrs. Clarence O. Borton, 64, died at her home 121 West South Street, at 7 p.m. Sunday evening after a lingering illness. She had been suffering from heart disease for the past year, spending several months in the hospital at Mason City receiving treatment.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational Church with the Rev. Verne Spindell, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Clear Lake Cemetery with Ward Funeral Directors in charge.
Hattie Lucinda Miles, daughter of Levi and Helen Miles, was born April 16, 1878, in Union township south of Clear Lake. She attended the Union township schools and the Clear Lake high school.
She was married to Clarence Borton in November, 1899, and to this union were born five children; Lloyd, who preceded her in death April 13, 1928; Miles, Millie, Marguerite and Walter.
They farmed in Union township until 1904 and then moved to Missouri. In 1908 they returned to Union township to locate on a farm. Five years later they moved to Grant township where they remained until 1937 at which time they moved to Clear Lake to their present location.
She was a member of the First Congregational church of Clear Lake, of Group No. 4 of the Congregational Ladies aid society, and was also affiliated with the W.R.C. and the Do Your Bit club.
Surviving her are her husband and four children, Miles Borton of Mt. Vernon township; Mrs. W.C. Grell, Clear Lake; Mrs. William Wreghitt, Ventura; and Walter C. Borton, Pittsfield, Mass. Four brothers, John, Frank, and Edward Miles of Clear Lake; and Ernest Miles of Thornton, and nine grandchildren survive.
